Learn about a  Pioneer

The first London exhibition of John Thomson’s photography provides an opportunity to look at his working practices from wet collodion to dry plate. He was one of the few nineteenth century photographers who actively continued promoting the application of photography, thirty years after his first success in the Far East.

Using his own words where possible, examples of his negatives from the Wellcome Collection and prints from the Royal Geographical Society, we hope to show how his expertise and passion for the application of photography is still relevant today.
