John Thomson is one of 19th century’s greatest photographers, a pioneer of photojournalism. Exhibitions drawn from the renowned collection at the Wellcome Library, London.

Two exhibition packages available for consideration by museum curators:

  • China: Through the Lens of John Thomson 1868 – 1872
  • Through the Lens of John Thomson: Siam, Angkor and Coastal China 1862 – 1872

The China exhibition opened in Beijing April 2009 at the Beijing World Art Museum and toured to Fujian and Guangdong. The 2010 European tour opened at the Liverpool Maritime Museum, travelled to the Burrell Collection, Glasgow, the Museum of East Asian Antiquities, Stockholm, Sweden, the Chester Beatty Collection, Dublin. Since then this Exhibition has returned to China for a second tour to Shenzhen, Nanjing and Hangzhou achieving nearly 900,000 visitors to date.

These are exhibition projects with a proven track record, substantial visitor figures and excellent reviews. Flexible and economic touring terms are available for consideration by museum curators.
